The Comprehensive Health Assessment Inventory (CHAI), also known as the
Residential Treatment Health Assessment Inventory (RTHAI) was developed
based on the admission, treatment, and discharge data of over 105,000
clinical cases from various accredited facilities in the USA. Its
particular focus is on meeting the patient management guidelines of the
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) for
patient assessment and treatment planning in adolescent and adult
psychiatric and substance abuse residential, partial hospitalization, and
outpatient facilities.
CHAI was specifically designed to be utilized by a multidisciplinary
clinical teams, promoting diagnostically-focused approach to treatment,
and effective matching between patients and appropriate treatment
modalities.
Intended to function as an integral component of a patient's medical
record, CHAI can be administered either in its entirety during admission
procedures to patients capable of withstanding comprehensive assessment,
or by its individual components during the entire course of inpatient
and/or outpatient therapeutic continuum. There are no known test
saturation effects, and each component of the inventory can be
administered repeatedly over various intervals.
CHAI consists of six components: past or present illnesses, somatic
symptoms, health behaviors, assessment of functionality, cognitive
assessment, and a treatment planning guide. The treatment planning section
includes 60 of the most significant clinical areas, and the CHAI computer
software generates comprehensive treatment planning guides for each
clinical area indicated. Treatment planning guides can be utilized either
in their entirety, modified to suit specific applications, or appended to
the patient hospital record.
CHAI comprehensive patient profile is designed to function as a clinical
workbook, allowing for an ongoing input and modifications by clinical
staff depending on patient's progress and changing conditions. The reports
can be generated either in paper format, or as an ASCII computer file
which can be imported into any word processor for modifications, filing,
archiving, retrieval. etc.
CHAI computer software program is available at no cost to facilities which
sign a contractual agreement with IMH-Network, Ltd. for additional
assessment services for a minimum period of one year. Regular upgrades and
technical support are also available at no cost.
